From the Desk of the Director...
Greetings Adventure Women,
Summer is certainly upon us in full force as I write this greeting.
2007 blew-in in typical New England fashion that we fondly refer
to as "Betty weather events". It never seems to fail that
we have some type of weather challenge to accompany our Retreats
or events.
To recap our 2007 year of adventure, we will start with our St.
Patrick’s Day Winter Retreat on March 16-18, 2007 at the AMC
Highland Center at Crawford Notch in Bretton Woods, NH. The adventure
began with the journey to the Highland Center on Friday night in
the wind and snow which continued through out the weekend. That
did not dampen the spirit of the women who snowshoe-hiked the familiar
trails around the Highland Center. Inside, we explored "The
Continued Journey: Stoking the Fire Within", expressing ourself
through art, movement and meditation. Laughter, dancing, quiet
moments around the fire or just watching the beautiful snow out
the library windows added to the enjoyment of the weekend.
The weather events did not end with the winter of 2007. Our 2nd
Annual Spring Fling on April
14, 2007 at the Community Campus in Portsmouth, NH brought April
snow, sleet and flooding rain for our spring flowers. Our hardy
Adventure Women made their way to the Spring Fling, brushing the
snow and sleet from their stunning Spring Bonnets to enjoy an amusing
fashion show, great food and renewed friendships.
Our major fundraising event for 2007 took place on Sunday July
22, 2007 at the 3rd Annual Seacoast
Concert for a Cure at the Redhook Brewery in Portsmouth,
NH. Our Adventure Women turned out in full force, joining the sea
of volunteers in green tie-dyed t-shirts, to man the Raffle/Silent
Auction Tent at the Concert. We are honored to be one of the recipients
of this popular fundraiser, featuring international and local bands
who have donated their talents to raise funds for breast cancer
support organizations. Thanks to all of you who made the Raffle/Silent
Auction run so smoothly - the music, food/drink and gorgeous day
(no weather events that day) added to the success of the day.
Our next Retreat will be upon us in a few short months as these
lush green trees transform into their brilliant colors of Fall.
Join us October 19-21, 2007 for the Fall
Retreat 2007 at the Barbara C. Harris Center
in the beautiful Monadnock area of NH. We will welcome the season
of transformation with outdoor activities on the 326 wooded acres
on the shores of Otter Lake in Greenfield, NH. Explore your inner
self with our expressive and healing arts sessions. Come renew
yourself with your breast sisters at our Fall Retreat 2007.
My greeting would not be complete without thanking you for your
financial and volunteer support which keeps Betty’s dream of “women
helping women” alive. It is our honor and pleasure to provide the
opportunity for women of all stages and ages of breast cancer to
move from surviving to thriving. If you would like to “give back" for
all the love and support you received in your breast cancer journey,
please consider volunteer and donation
opportunities with the Betty J. Borry Breast Cancer Retreats.
“Like the Tortuga, we always move forward,
with our heads held high ready to plant the seeds of love, kindness,
laughter and support to those around us..." - Betty
