Staying Abreast
Summer and Fall 2006 Newsletter

From the Desk of the Director...

Greetings Adventure Women!

We certainly have had to “spring” into Summer, complete with challenging “weather events” directly from Betty, I’m sure. Winter gear was discarded and our creative, adventurous spirit was challenged at our 1st Spring Fling on April 9, 2006. Our Adventure Women from 1995 to 2006 retreat weekends, enjoyed a springtime luncheon, a fashion show of their Spring Adventure headgear, an old fashioned Yankee Swap with a twist and dancing, laughter and fun.

We were honored to be chosen as one of the local breast cancer survivor support organizations to receive funds from the June 25, 2006 Seacoast Concert for a Cure. Several of our Adventure Women volunteered at the Raffle/Silent Auction tent and joined me in the tribute to Betty J. Borry in celebration of life beyond breast cancer. The community’s concern and support was evident by the huge crowds of concert goers, volunteer skill and time by the musicians, sound engineers, and organizers, donations of raffle/silent auction items and the performance space. The energy, music and dancing that flowed out from the performance tent all day into the evening was powerful. Thank you Seacoast Concert for a Cure for your support.

Coming up next will be our 4th Annual Arts and Crafts Festival on Saturday September 9, 2006. New this year is our location at the Stratham Hill Park, home of the Stratham Fair in Stratham, NH, musical entertainment, food and of course artisans and crafters selling their creations. Welcome in Fall with a NE favorite and support the Betty J. Borry Breast Cancer Retreats. See you at the Festival.

My Summer and Fall Newsletter would not be complete without announcing our Fall Retreat 2006. We will end our Fall season of change and transformation with a Health and Healing retreat on the sand dune beach of Ferry Beach Park in Saco, ME on November 3-5, 2006. With the ocean as the background, experience a weekend of relaxation, expressive and healing arts with your breast sisters.

We could not continue Betty’s dream of “women helping women” without the financial and volunteer support of our Adventure Women. If you would like to “give back" for all the love and support you received in your breast cancer journey, please consider some of the volunteer and donation opportunities listed in our Opportunities for Giving.

Like the Tortuga, we are strong, know we what we must do to survive and will move forward to meet our destiny. I invite you to travel together with other women who are moving from surviving to thriving in their life after breast cancer.

Tortuga Lives!
