Summer Retreat 2008

1st Annual Tortuga Day

On a warm August day in 2008 a group of adventure women travelled to the Log Cabin at Phillips Academy in Andover, MA. It was a day of relaxation, reconnecting, and fun. And the rest is history...This came to be known as Tortuga Day.

The Log Cabin sits on a 125 acre bird sanctuary with great hiking trails throughout. The Rhododendrons are in bloom, the birds are singing and the warm fresh air will invigorate you as you enjoy the tranquil setting.

Tortuga Day is a great way to get together with the other BJB adventure women to catch up, eat, and play. It s a pot luck menu so we always have a plethora of food choices; from Hummus, Salsa, Salads, to the good old standby, Hot dogs and Hamburgers.

At every Tortuga Day, we hold a raffle for our scholarship fund. Handmade jewelry, a patio heater, candles, photo cards, and even Snuggies are some of the items raffled off in the past years.

Play is a very important part of Tortuga Day. Whether it be playing a mean game of Croquet, tossing a Frisbee around, or playing a game of Bananagrams, there is always the spirit of fun amongst us. You can also just sit, relax and take in the day.
